Shifts in the structure of nonprofits could create operational problems in accounting departments because the changes in the organizational climate created by servant leaders might not be recognized and adapted effectively. The problem in this study was that servant leaders might disrupt functionality by changing the accounting department's procedures, rules, and expectations. The current literature does not show a direct relationship between leadership and accounting operations. However, leadership could affect the organizational climate and then influence the accounting functionality. used the descriptive qualitative case study design and purposive sampling method to conduct a semi-structured interview in a nonprofit organization's accounting department; the researcher explored the experiences and perceptions of the employees in servant leadership practices. The findings were grouped by two research questions. The results showed that servant leadership influenced the organizational climate by communicating with followers, caring about followers' needs, engaging in the work, leading by example, being patient with people, etc. The changing organizational climate required the accuracy and effectiveness of completing the task, and employees were inspired to respect, support, and collaborate with each other to adapt to the shift. Servant leaders indirectly affected the operation flow in the accounting department. Future researchers can explore how servant leadership performs in operation from a wide range of perspectives, and the results from different types of institutions can build upon the knowledge developed from the current study. Future researchers can also apply this study framework to different leadership practices in accounting departments using quantitative or mixed inquiries to gain more insights.
