African American Women entrepreneurs (AAWEs) have experienced financial challenges in securing financial capital as stated in the literature review. Researchers have focused on African American female-owned businesses are limited. Racial differences and external debt are vital challenges that contribute to lower financial capital levels for Black-owned businesses, and White-owned businesses. Understanding those challenges might lead to solutions for African American Women entrepreneurs. If left unaddressed AAWEs are likely to continue to languish in the background of the entrepreneurial field, falling behind their non-African American counterparts, most notably Whites. In this study the researcher used African American Women entrepreneurs and Porter's five forces model as the conceptual framework. The purpose of the modified Delphi study was to gain a consensus for a deeper understanding of the financial challenges AAWEs experience in obtaining capital funding. Entrepreneurship plays an essential role in labor for minority populations the benefits include strengthening community, enhancing economic prosperity, and development. The study included AAWEs experts in southeastern New York from various industries including jewelry, beauty cosmetics, janitorial services, esthetician, and event services. Results from the study evidenced three major challenges, including (a) lack of financial capital from banks and financial lending institutions; (b) entrepreneurial mentorship; and (c) lack of sufficient support systems from business partners, investors, family, and friends. African American Women entrepreneurs in s southeastern New York experienced these challenges striving to create wealth from the start-up phase through growth maintenance.
