Because childhood experiences may have implications for adult relationships, the current pilot study was designed to understand the associations between positive childhood experiences and adult romantic relationship quality for individuals 32-45 years of age in committed relationships (N = 197). Validated instruments, including the Benevolent Childhood Experiences scale and the Relationship Assessment Scale were used to evaluate the proposed hypotheses, by employing a simple linear regression with BCE total scores as the predictor and RAS total scores as the criterion showed that BCE did significantly predict RAS, F(1,187)=7.27, p=.008, with a small to medium effect size of .037(R2), with a beta weight of .193. Our hope in this study was to explore the upside of childhood experiences and relationship quality from a resilience standpoint for a refreshing perspective that can aid in the assessment and treatment of couples and even lend to preventative measures in early childhood.
