The current dissertation was used to examine the critical factors influencing the success and sustainability of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the Caribbean, specifically focusing on Grenada and Jamaica. SMEs are pivotal in economic development, contributing to job creation, innovation, and regional growth. Leaders of enterprises faced significant challenges, particularly in small island economies where limited access to finance, regulatory constraints, and infrastructural deficiencies hinder their potential. Using a comparative analysis of SMEs in Grenada and Jamaica, the current study was used to identify the conditions necessary for successful business startups and strategies for ensuring their longevity in globalization. Data were collected through surveys, interviews, and secondary sources to explore key areas, including access to finance, regulatory environments, technology integration, market access, and infrastructure. Findings showed that while both countries shared similar challenges, leaders' approaches to supporting SMEs differed significantly. Jamaica has greater regulatory efficiency and financial inclusivity, whereas Grenada has stronger startup support systems and greater flexibility for small businesses. The current study provided actionable recommendations for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to create an enabling environment for SMEs that included enhancing access to finance, streamlining regulatory processes, improving infrastructure, fostering technological innovation, and facilitating market expansion. By addressing the challenges, leaders of both countries can harness the potential of SMEs to drive sustainable economic development and compete effectively in a globalized economy. The current research was used to contribute to the understanding of SME success factors in the Caribbean and offered a roadmap for fostering resilience and growth among small businesses, positioning Grenada and Jamaica as leaders in entrepreneurial development within the region.
