Human trafficking has been referred to as a crime against humanity, as victims suffer from physical, emotional, sexual, and psychological abuse. However, human trafficking is the most under-reported crime, with little to no intervention for victims. Developing a public social service response to this issue is critical to ensure help survivors heal with proper care and support. This general qualitative inquiry was conducted to explore experiences of human service professionals and how they perceive social capital as playing a role in victims' entrance into human trafficking, which the research question addressed. Using open coding and emergent themes, four themes were uncovered: (a) providers need work-life balance and victims of human trafficking need comprehensive mental health care, (b) victims are vulnerable to human trafficking because they lack the essential resources to survive, (c) lack of awareness of social situations makes victims vulnerable and easily influenced, and (d) transition and rehabilitation back into the community come with healing. This research can bring about social change and address social justice among a population with no voice by telling their story and providing insight for those who support them.
