The sexual exploitation of children is a global concern (Acra, 2017). The rise in children's online presence has contributed to the increased distribution of child pornography on the Internet (Chawki, 2021). Although many of the tools utilized by criminals to upload child exploitation materials are the same tools law enforcement uses to discover dark web content (ICMEC, 2017), law enforcement agencies cannot stop the distribution of child pornography (Chertoff, 2017). The purpose of this research was to provide local police departments with an understanding of four tools used to track the distribution of child pornography and to help aid the public, legal aid agencies, and law enforcement in understanding the distribution of child pornography. The research found the dark web, the onion touter (tor), peer-to-peer, and steganography were tools used to distribute, access, conceal and acquire child exploitation material (Davis & Arrigo, 2021; Liberatore et al., 2020; Narayanan et al., 2020; & Passi, 2018 &). These tools are vital to the distribution of child pornography because pedophiles can conceal their identities. The concealment of sensitive data allows individuals to trade information and hide their geo-location from law enforcement.
