This study proposes that the cultural and historical significance of the Chelsea Hotel Lobby can be effectively preserved by focusing on its renovated structures and exploring its archival, historic fabric. By recognizing and utilizing the potential of these elements, the study advocates for a balanced approach to design interventions, both physical and metaphorical, to create a sequential experience that respects tradition, embraces innovation, and reveals layers of historical continuity.By researching the transformative potential of thresholds, as discussed by Till Boettger, and the impact of sensory experiences on spatial perception, as examined by Juhani Pallasmaa, the research aims to demonstrate how these elements can enhance the sequential narrative and functional aspects of historical spaces relevant in contemporary settings. This approach considers the complexities of adaptive reuse and historical preservation, highlighted by Imane Djebbour and Ratiba Wided Biara, and the importance of cultural memory in adaptive reuse, as explored by Sally Stone, ensuring the Chelsea Hotel remains a vibrant cultural landmark while accommodating modern needs. The research delves into the transcendental qualities of threshold conditions and corridorscapes, unraveling intricate narratives within these physical and metaphorical spaces. The study seeks to construct a carefully curated visitor experience connecting one corridorscape to another. It strategically employs varying heights, wall thicknesses, and lighting design to enhance spatial perception and narrative immersion.By integrating these design elements, the study aims to understand the interplay between architecture and occupant experience. Through a comprehensive analysis of these interventions, it seeks to enrich the historical and cultural significance of the Chelsea Hotel Lobby with an immersive and coherent spatial narrative.Ultimately, this research aims to contribute to preserving historic architecture while creating meaningful and engaging experiences for visitors. Exploring the transformative potential of architectural elements and spatial design, it offers insights into how the built environment can serve as a vessel for storytelling and cultural continuity.
