Through this thesis, I endeavor to trace the lineage of kinship formations in American history and the rise of queer theory in relation to the field of kinship theory as a mode of critiquing hegemonic kinship structures to begin to tease out the ways in which kinship is spatialized. In the second and third part of the thesis, I extend this research into my studio projects to examine other forms of kinship (maintenance, material, etc) and how they may manifest in architecture.
