While multiple studies have recognized the importance of writing centers in the Saudi university context (Abalhassan, 2014; Barnawi, 2018; Murshidi & Abd, 2014), the effectiveness of writing center practices in Saudi Arabia has not yet been widely considered (Barnawi, 2018). Very few studies have focused on examining the impact of the writing centers on students' writing development, and those studies have mainly focused on other Middle Eastern countries such as the UAE and Oman (e.g., Barnawi, 2018; Eleftheriou, 2011; McHarg, 2013 & 2014; Schiera, 2017). As mentioned above, Barnawi (2018) addressed the lack of writing center studies in Saudi context, calling for research into writing center practices and how writing centers work for Saudi students' writing skills are not sufficiently investigated. Therefore, this dissertation aims to focus on these issues. This dissertation focuses on exploring writing centers in Saudi Arabia, the types of tutors who work there, and their roles in Saudi writing centers to create more awareness of how writing centers operate in Saudi Arabia context. This study uses an exploratory qualitative case study to explore writing centers in the Saudi context and the impact of these centers on the enhancement of student writing skills. All of the participants who were involved in this study are directors and tutors who work in writing centers that are located in Saudi Arabia. It is hoped that this study can deliver a better vision for future writing center directors and tutors in Saudi Arabia.
