The following manuscript is a study that explores the relationship between the students' perception of their parents' involvement and the students' overall attitudes towards school. Previous literature suggests there continues to be notable discrepancies in standardized testing across race and ethnicity, stereotypes have caused students to develop ambivalent attitudes towards high education, and parental involvement is an important factor in a student's academic socialization. The sample consisted of 60 Black/African American students. Purposive sampling was used to ensure participants only included eighth graders. The researcher utilized a questionnaire consisting of four instruments Perception of Parents Scale (POPS), Behavioral-Emotional-Cognitive School Engagement Scale (BECSES), Academic Support and Communication Scale, and a demographic measure. Data from the present study suggested that parental involvement is not a predictor of a student's overall attitudes towards school, but the gender of the student and the students' perception of academic supports can be used to predict the students' overall attitudes towards school.
