Inmates with Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) comprise a large part of the prison population. Treating ASPD in a correctional setting is difficult and highly stressful for correctional psychotherapists. A review of the literature identified a need for a more comprehensive treatment protocol for ASPD in correctional settings. This non-empirical project used a systematic literature search to identify aspects of existing treatment approaches for ASPD for modification and inclusion in an integrative treatment program. A team of experts then conducted content validation on the protocol, which was revised on the basis of their feedback. It is hoped that this approach will more effectively engage with, and better meet the needs of those who are suffering from ASPD, while also helping therapists manage the stress and countertransference involved in working with this population. The implications for future implementation and empirical validation of this treatment protocol are discussed.
