Scant documentation exists regarding the challenges chaplains face using telecommunication for religious/spiritual care delivery services in hospice settings. The current study used a qualitative research design and a phenomenological case study methodology to explore and describe the current lived experiences that chaplains faced as religious and spiritual care providers when they utilized different telecommunication and virtual technologies to deliver interventions in hospice care setting. The study was used to explore challenges that chaplains faced in hospice setting in terms of education, training, acceptability, accessibility, and effectiveness of telephone-based approach to provide emotional and spiritual supports to patients. Additionally, the study was used to show how chaplains can overcome the challenges to provide better services. An understanding of the lived experiences of the chaplains regarding the challenges faced in the hospice care setting when using telehealth systems helped created meaningful corporate learning to improve chaplain productivity in providing spiritual care to patients and their family members in modern health care settings.
