Autonomous sensory meridian response, ASMR, is a sensory phenomenon that gained popularity on online platforms as a technique to promote relaxation. ASMR is characterized as a tingling sensation that starts from the scalp and progresses throughout one's spine. These tingling sensations are often triggered by a repetitive stimulus, such as whispering and light tapping on objects. Existing studies on ASMR have shown that this technique can be effective to temporarily alleviate stress, chronic pain, and depression. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of ASMR on university students' stress levels, and understand its potential to become an effective stress reducing technique among students. It was hypothesized that ASMR will help to lower students' stress levels. Likewise, it was predicted that ASMR would have an effect on the participant's physiology, such as heartbeat. This research involves a baseline video, stress-inducing video, physiological measurement, animated videos and ASMR videos to assess the impact of ASMR on stress levels in a sample of students. A within-subjects experimental design was conducted with 20 participants, who were required to complete the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) at five different time points: before baseline, after the stress-inducing video, and after ASMR videos and animated videos conditions. Likewise, participants also completed a Relaxation State Questionnaire (RSQ) at the end of each condition to assess their emotional state. Then, data was collected and analyzed through two different statistical analysis, repeated measures ANOVA and a simple paired T-test. Overall, the result showed that there was no significance of the effects of ASMR on students' physiological measures.
