Over twenty years of clinical practice as a Women's Healthcare Nurse Practitioner has informed me of the health issues plaguing women in the Western world. I have witnessed how the healthcare system often leaves women searching elsewhere for healing. I routinely observed women struggle with the medication-focused Western healthcare system, particularly in juxtaposition to their own knowing.Throughout my Women's Spirituality learning, coupled with my clinical experience, I sensed that connection to one's intuition and spirituality were the veritable foundations of a woman's health. This study, then, searches that system of inner knowing for the ways women journey toward healing. I explore the spiritual side of health by asking: "How do intuition, faith, and ancestry affect women's health?" My theory is that intuition, faith, and ancestry most undoubtedly affect women's health-the question is how do these entities affect women's health? Therefore, through an embodied autoethnographic exploration coupled with social and medical research and literary analysis, the present dissertation explains the ways in which lived experience, intuition, faith, and ancestry impact women's health. In particular, I explore how women's health is impacted by trauma, including childhood sexual abuse, and I explore the role of spirituality as a healing modality.I laid the foundation for this autoethnographic research by documenting my medical history in detail, focusing on occasions of ill health in my lifetime, and documenting the life events simultaneously occurring at those times of illness. The resulting vignettes and the autoethnographic writings created a garden of data through which to sift, looking deeply into how and why intuition, faith, and ancestry are instrumental to a woman's health, starting with my own.Key themes included childhood sexual abuse, food and body image issues, and infertility. Sifting these themes through Women's Spirituality literature, research, and scholarly works about intuition, faith, and ancestry garnered an abundant harvest of insights into how a woman's health is affected. This inquiry also discovered the pathways to healing that these themes share, an inner knowing that guides women to remember that they are indeed the healer.
