Symmetry found in both nature and mathematics has had a profound role in the history of physics. In this thesis, we will first explore the symmetric features of Time-reversal-odd (T-odd) Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) Parton Distribution Functions (PDFs) and the associated process dependence of some of them in Quantum Chromo-Dynamics (QCD). We will then elaborate on the inevitability of accessing analogous effects in a related, but different, gauge field theory, specifically, Quantum Electro-Dynamics (QED). In order to understand the shared physical and mathematical commonality for these effects, it is useful to briefly summarize the history of the problem. Specifically, we set out to find atomic analogs to the Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS) process and Drell-Yan (DY) process, with the goal of elucidating naive time reversal odd symmetries known to exist in the proton. A nonzero single-spin asymmetry has been definitively observed in SIDIS, therefore the interference effects that allow a nonzero asymmetry have been verified, however, this is not so for Drell-Yan. Since the theoretical proof of the Sivers sign change in 2002, experimentalists have struggled to verify the Sivers sign change by comparing SIDIS and Drell-Yan processes: So far, the available polarized Drell-Yan data has been insufficient to verify the process-dependent sign change. An analogous set of systems in QED are predicted to exhibit the single spin asymmetries as well as a Sivers sign change and be calculable to any degree of precision given the small value of αQED. Here, we have proposed QED versions of SIDIS and Drell-Yan, sufficiently analogous to SIDIS and Drell-Yan in QCD, so as to allow for an experimental verification of the gauge field-theoretical prediction of a Sivers sign change.
