This dissertation explores several key areas within the field of quantum information, including quantum error correction, metrology, control, foundations, open quantum systems and entanglement dynamics. We first show how the Heisenberg scaling can be achieved on the measurement of a three-qubit system via quantum error correction. Then we show how to time-optimally drive a quantum state to evolve along arbitrary trajectories under energy constraints and identify which trajectories are achievable under such constraints. This is equivalent to solving the Schrodinger equation's inverse problem, i.e., given a solution of the Schrodinger equation, determining the Hamiltonian that generates such a solution. Next, we will demonstrate how solving the Schrodinger equation's inverse problem allows us to describe the wave function collapse process via a stochastic, time- and state-dependent Hamiltonian. On the other hand, generalizing these quantum state driving techniques in the non-unitary regime yields a probabilistic unitary formulation of open quantum dynamics. This new formulation provides an intuitive and unified framework for describing open quantum system dynamics exactly under all regimes, whether Markovian or non-Markovian. It is found that all quantum processes, whether open or closed, are either unitary and probabilistic unitary, i.e. probabilistic combinations of unitary evolutions. Furthermore, we show that the signs of the rates in the Lindblad master equation can always be arbitrarily determined, meaning that they can be always be made e.g. all-positive. This result is closely related to the direction of information flow and could be useful in quantum control and simulation tasks where the rates are required to remain positive for certain protocols to be useful. Finally, we study the entanglement dynamics in quantum collision models and solve for the pairwise entanglement for all qubit pairs. Collision models play a special role here in that they give us an opportunity to monitor and study how a single collision can affect the entanglement for the whole many-body system in a highly nonlocal way. We also find a genuine multipartite entanglement called all-to-all entanglement, where every qubit is entangled with every other qubit. We explore its properties and examine its behavior under local fluctuations of excitations.
