This study addressed the role of wuwei in personal transformative learning and transpersonal growth using a multiple case study, so as to understand the relationship between Taoist philosophy centered on wuwei and personal growth. By the design strategy of practicing wuwei in a group, participants were placed in a field of wuwei to present the influencing factors that promote change and growth. Six participants participated in this process that took place in China and was conducted in Chinese. Data collection included interview transcripts, group process transcripts, and journal reports. Data was analyzed using Thematic Content Analysis. The results indicated that practicing wuwei stimulated participants' positive changes at multiple levels. For example, compared to the initial anxiety state, participants became significantly more relaxed and calmer; compared with the initial self-denial tendency, their self-will became clearer and more stable, showing more self-esteem, confidence, and self-love. In addition, as the scope of consciousness expanded, participants experienced more connection and communication with the overall external environments in their daily lives, which made them live more authentically, flexibly, and vibrantly. Moreover, participants' understanding of Tao and wuwei was no longer limited to their thoughts, but rather more integrated into their consciousness. In summary, wuwei played a trigger role for participants' engaging into a field following Tao to transformative learning and transpersonal growth.
