Improving the accuracy of fertilizer and herbicide application for self-propelled sprayers is an important part of precision agriculture. Efforts have been made to stabilize the booms that support the spray nozzles. Through various mechanical linkages and suspension systems, the booms have been designed to be less coupled to the vehicle's chassis, thus further mitigating unwanted dynamics and providing a more stable boom system.The suspension system studied in this research is the center frame lift assembly, which reduces the vertical coupling of the booms to the chassis. The lift system is composed of two mechanical lift arms, two hydraulic cylinders, and a hydraulic accumulator. Features of the accumulator were manipulated to better understand the lift assembly's behavior. This included the accumulator's precharge pressure, volume, and inclusion of an orifice in the hydraulic line that connects the accumulator to the other components.Tests were conducted for a range of field profiles, speeds, and boom target heights. The initial objective was to characterize the suspension system across its entire operating range, as well as explore how manipulating the precharge affected the system performance. The second set of testing was done for different accumulator volumes and orifices diameters.The data pertaining to the various levels in precharge revealed that the lowest setting, 83 bar (1200 psi), was optimal for this suspension system. The second set of tests showed that the largest orifice diameter, 6 mm, yielded the best performance across test configurations. Regarding the changes in volume, larger volumes were best for high amplitude field events, while the smallest volume, 2 liters, generally proved to be best for normal field operation. This gives rise to the possibility of using multiple accumulator volumes with control logic to further increase the center frame stability. Further research must be done to explore what the optimal combination of volumes is.{A0}{A0}
