This study examines three interconnected biblical-theological themes in Mark 4:35-41 through the method of intertextuality: (1) the antagonistic sea, (2) exodus themes, and (3) allusions to Jonah. I argue that Jesus is presented as the eschatological dragon slayer as He pierces the dragon in the sea in Mark 4:35-41-even though no sea creature is explicitly named in the narrative. In the OT, the concept of the sea dragon is closely related to the negative sea motif, the exodus event, and the story of Jonah.
