In an era of complex global challenges, traditional state-to-state negotiations often fall short. Track 1.5 Diplomacy- combining official and unofficial dialogue- has become essential for building trust, fostering cooperation, and generating innovative solutions. This book offers the first in-depth study of Track 1.5 Diplomacy in the US and Europe, blending theory and practice. It examines how governments, think tanks, academics, and civil society collaborate in semi-official settings to influence policy and manage conflicts. Covering theoretical foundations, regional case studies, and emerging challenges, this volume is a vital resource for students, scholars, diplomats, and policymakers seeking to understand and leverage Track 1.5 Diplomacy. Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Hoan is a lecturer at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), the think tank of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Currently, she is serving a three-year diplomatic term at Vietnam's Embassy in Norway as a researcher and assistant/secretary to the Ambassador. She holds an MPA from SPEA, Indiana University, USA (2013), and a PhD in International Economics from Vietnam's National University (2024). Her research interests focus on diplomacy, international relations, international economics, and international business. Dr. Mai Thi Hong Tam is a researcher at the DAV. She earned a Master in International Relations at DAV (2003) and a second Master in International Studies at Ohio University (2009) as a Fulbright scholar. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northern Illinois University and a Postdoc from Florida Atlantic University (2017). Her researches focus on political theory, international relations, and Vietnam's relations with major powers including the U.S., China, Russia, the EU, and ASEAN. Ms. Do Tu Hien holds a Master from Central China Normal University (2006). She is a lecturer and also the Deputy Chief of Office and Head of Finance and Administration at DAV. She served as Consul at Vietnam's Consulate General in Hong Kong (2016-2019). Her research interest is international relations.
