Tsunami in the head -- better understanding and coping with burnout
new approaches for a resilient society /[electronic resource] :by Rebecca Petersen. - Wiesbaden :Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden :2025. - xxxviii, 284 p. :ill., digital ;24 cm.
Foreword Dr. Klaus Sejkora -- Foreword Dr. Barbara Hochstrasser -- Foreword Dr. Martin Keck -- Introduction -- Structure of this book -- The essentials in brief -- Chapter I -- Chapter II - The Tidal Wave - Illness -- Chapter III -- The Sea - Recovery and Setbacks -- Chapter IV -- The Driftwood - Being Supported & Allowing the Good -- Chapter V -- The House on the Coast - Reflection/Gaining Security -- Chapter VI - The Lighthouse - Making Sense of Uncertainty -- Chapter VII -- The Wide World - Integration Within and Without -- Epilogue -- Final Words and Outlook -- Appendix.
Burnout remains a current and socially relevant issue, especially in the education sector, yet it is rarely openly discussed. It is often accompanied by feelings of shame and guilt, depending on the individual. Everyone has their own perception of what burnout is-but does this perception truly reflect reality? And if so, why does burnout seem to affect so many people unnoticed? The author aims to change this situation by offering approaches for organizations, teams, leaders, consultants, as well as those affected by burnout and their families and friends. She seeks to foster a new awareness of social responsibility. In doing so, she builds a bridge to a new perspective on resilience and health, providing an active contribution to prevention and education. Her book offers accessible and approachable insights into a serious topic, enabling an open and healthy approach to this complex, insidious, and life-altering condition. Rebecca Petersen has worked for several years as a leader in the special education sector and is self-employed as a trained psychological counselor, systemic coach, supervisor, and organizational consultant (BSO), as well as a teaching transactional analyst under supervision (PTSTA-C). Despite her broad expertise in counseling and coaching, while working as a school principal, she herself suffered from burnout and was incapacitated and unable to work for several months. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
