This book examines translation policies (TP) for foreign languages in Shanghai, China and aims to propose effective TP for communication between authorities and foreigners. By adopting the 3-level framework of TP (management, practices, and beliefs) (González Núñez, 2016a; Meylaerts, 2017), it systematically explores how these three aspects interact or conflict, including the dynamics between national and local management, as well as the interplay between local management, practices, and beliefs. The author employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, drawing on data from questionnaires, interviews, and available official documents to ensure methodological rigor and provide a comprehensive analysis. The methods and findings will enrich understanding of TP in the local setting of Shanghai, as well as being applicable to global contexts. Consequently, this book will appeal to a wide range of readers, including policymakers, neighborhood committee staff, researchers, foreigners, translators, and students in Translation Studies and related fields. Shuxia Zhou obtained her PhD in Translation Studies from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium. Her research interests focus on translation policies.
