Intelligent investing in irrational markets
an introduction to investing in seven simple rules /[electronic resource] :by Panos Mourdoukoutas, Christopher Bates. - Second edition. - Cham :Springer Nature Switzerland :2025. - xxii, 123 p. :ill. (some col.), digital ;24 cm.
Emotions and Intelligence in Investing -- Don't PayOthers to Lose your Money 10 -- Have a Financial Plan -- Know Which Assets to Buy and Sell -- Know Which Stocks to Buy and Sell -- Stay Focused -- Maintain an Intelligent State of Mind -- Know The Impact of Geopolitics On Your Investments.
Investing involves the basic principles of economics that help investors identify financial goals and constraints to come up with the right asset and portfolio allocation. This second edition outlines the updated rules for investing in irrational markets successfully. It discusses the emotions that go into investing decisions, the benefits (or lack thereof) of paying someone else to manage your money, and the importance of a financial plan. It also gives a thorough account of the asset classes to buy and sell including stocks, and explores humans as both emotional and intelligent beings. Investing is, as the book details, a game of both economics and psychology. It will be of interest to both students and researchers of capital markets, investments and securities, behavioral finance, and financial psychology. Panos Mourdoukoutas is a Professor of Economics at Long Island University, USA. He also teaches at Columbia University. He has published several articles in professional journals and magazines, including Epoch Times, International Business Times, Barron's, Forbes, The New York Times, Japan Times, Newsday, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Business Strategy, European Management Review, Management International Review, and the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He has also published several books, including Business Strategy in a Semiglobal Economy, Entrepreneurship: Institutions and Policies, The Ten Golden Rules of Leadership, and The Seven Principles of WOM and Buzz Marketing. Christopher Bates is the Associate Dean at the Long Island University Business School School of Business, USA. He also serves as the Faculty Advisor for the Student Investment Fund at Long Island University. Before transitioning to academia, Dr. Bates built a distinguished 24-year career on Wall Street as a Member of the New York Stock Exchange, specializing in market-making for major companies such as Goodyear, Valero, United Airlines, and Genentech. He held leadership roles as Vice President at Robb, Peck & McCooey, Managing Member at Benjamin Jacobson & Sons, and Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. He earned his undergraduate degrees from Long Island University and his Doctorate from Northeastern University.
