Introduction -- Niche Construction in the Anthropocene: Elements of a Geo-Anthropological Synthesis -- On the Contribution of Genetically Informed Studies to the Explanation and Interpretation of Social Inequalities -- Challenges and Achievements of Evolutionary and Biosocial Approaches in Sociology -- Evolutionary Media Psychology -- Evolutionary Family Research -- Inclusive Fitness and Human Social Behavior -- What is Cultural Evolution, Actually? -- Evolutionary Game Theory, among Others.
In many social science disciplines, the potential of Darwinian evolution theory has now been recognized, and this reception has often led to the emergence of new fields of research. For example, Evolutionary Psychology, Evolutionary Sociology, and Evolutionary Demography have established themselves as independent disciplines and can be summarized as Evolutionary Social Sciences. Selected concepts and application areas of the Evolutionary Social Sciences are addressed in this book. It invites readers on an interdisciplinary tour that spans disciplines such as psychology, sociology, family studies, behavioral genetics, demography, history, game theory, and archaeology. The book is divided into two parts. The first part includes contributions that provide an accessible introduction to the research fields and central concepts of the Evolutionary Social Sciences. The second part contains contributions that address specific questions from an evolutionary perspective. The target audience for the book includes social scientists and students who wish to engage with the evolutionary perspective in the social sciences. The Editors Manfred Hammerl is active as a social scientist in Graz. Sascha Schwarz is affiliated with the Bergische University Wuppertal. Kai P. Willführ is affiliated with the University of Oldenburg and Lund University. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence. A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content. This book is a translation of an original German edition. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation.
