OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of common beverages and accelerated aging on the color stability of denture teeth resins.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Formlabs denture teeth resin (shades B1, A1, A2, and A3) was used to print discs with a 2 mm thickness and 10 mm diameter on a Formlabs 3B printer. The discs were then post-processed as per manufacturer's instructions. Subsequently, discs were immersed in either 5 ml of coffee, tea, red wine, or distilled water for 7 days, or subjected to accelerated aging as per ISO Standard 4892-2. Ten samples per resin shade were assigned to each treatment condition (n=10) resulting in 200 samples total. Color measurements were performed on the discs before and after treatment using a spectrophotometer against white and black reference tiles to assess color and translucency in accordance with the CIE2000 formula.RESULTS: The effects of the denture tooth resin shade, the treatment condition, and the interaction of resin shade and treatment condition were statistically significant for ΔE00 and ΔTP00 (P<0.001). The most dramatic changes in color (ΔE00) were a result of the extrinsic staining effects of red wine on all four denture teeth resin shades, ranging from 5.5 ± 0.7 to 9.1 ± 1.4. Formlabs Denture Teeth Resin Shade B1 was the most resistant to staining.CONCLUSIONS: Accelerated aging and staining solutions induced significant changes in color and translucency of 3D-printed Formlabs Denture Teeth resin. Formlabs Denture Teeth resins in shade B1 and A1 exhibited intrinsic changes in color with aging, while the color of shade A2 and A3 resin remained stable with aging. The color changes of the resins investigated did not support their use in 3D-printed esthetic bracket applications.
