Given its potential to improve supply chain performance, the adoption of digital technology in retail is a subject of interest that is receiving more and more attention. This study aims to comprehend how digital technologies affect the supply chain effectiveness (SCE) of retail businesses in Portugal. Drawing on the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, this research examines how different aspects of technology (such as efficiency, cost savings, and the support for faster, more informed decision-making), organizational factors (such as readiness for digital transformation and organizational structure), and environmental context (including market trends and regulatory environment) interplay to influence digital adoption and supply chain performance. An extensive literature review was conducted, which paved the way for developing a theoretical model and establishing hypotheses. To validate these hypotheses, an online questionnaire was administered to 45 participants. The subsequent quantitative analysis revealed that technology, organizational, and environmental factors have a positive and significant correlation with supply chain performance. The Technological Context exhibits the highest R2value, indicating its stronger influence on SCE compared to Organizational and Environmental Contexts. This emphasizes that, while factors related to an organization's readiness and external environmental conditions are significant, the strongest relationship on SCE is predominantly driven by the technology implemented within the supply chain.
