Obesity represents a complex and multifactorial disease that affects a growing segment of the global population. It is linked to a spectrum of cardiovascular and psychological diseases, among others. Addressing this multifactorial disease extends well beyond lifestyle changes. Current therapeutic options carry certain health risks and are accompanied by inconveniences, particularly in the context of more invasive interventions. Consequently, research of new treatments has expanded to explore the potential of compounds naturally produced by organisms. Within these natural products, chlorophyll derivatives have sparked the interest of the scientific community. owing to the recent discovery of their lipid-reducing activity, specifically the compounds 132-hydroxy-pheophytin a e 132-hydroxy-pheofarnesin a.In this study, an optimisation of the extraction process of chlorophyll a and its derivatives was test from Arthrospira platensis biomass, a remarkable cyanobacterium that produces significant quantities of this pigment and other natural products of interest. The obtained extracts were evaluated for their lipid and appetite-reducing activities in zebrafish larvae performing the Nile Red fat metabolism bioassay and a liposome-based bioassay. Additionally, an in silicometabolomic analysis was conducted using the Global Natural Product Social Molecular Networking (GNPS) platform and relative quantification of selected chlorophyll a derivatives from liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analyses. This approach allowed the establishment of a relationship between the extraction conditions and the relative abundances of the selected analysed compounds, the identification of bioactive extracts, and ultimately the putatively identification of compounds in these extracts.As a result, 28 extracts were obtained, with 9 of them demonstrating the ability to promote lipid reduction and 4 extracts reducing appetite in zebrafish larvae. Additionally, 9 compounds were putatively identified in some bioactive extracts and extraction protocols were developed for different derivatives of chlorophyll a.
