Thesis (Ph.D.)--Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2023.

The evangelical church has tried for many decades to provide the solution to the marriage crisis that is common today among evangelical believers. Divorce, cohabitation, and support of LGBTQ ideology are growing more common among evangelicals. Solutions have tended to focus on behavior modification or biblical theology about marriage. The missing element of these approaches is a centering of marriage within the community of the church. This dissertation argues that the church has a biblically grounded obligation to address the modern crisis in marriage with a church-centered model of marriage that honors God's comprehensive authority, assumes the corporate obligations of the covenant, and teaches marriage's commissional telos. This dissertation will identify the three theological elements listed above as the basis for how churches should view and treat marriage within the covenant community to address the marriage crisis.
