Thesis (D.M.F.T.)--National University, 2024.
Posttraumatic Growth (PTG) refers to the positive transformation that results from the psychological struggle after a trauma. When looking at PTG, a trauma is what the individual identifies as the trauma. When researching couples, little has been researched about PTG and relationship satisfaction without also looking at a specific trauma topic, such as a medical condition or experience the couple went through. This quantitative study aimed to examine if there was a relationship between PTG and relationship satisfaction and how much of the variance in relationship satisfaction is predicted by PTG. A total of 49 participants were recruited for this study. A demographic questionnaire, the Posttraumatic Growth Index Expanded (PTGI-X), the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Survey (DASS-21), and the Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI) were used to collect data. The results suggest that the relationship between PTG and couples' satisfaction is positive, meaning that when PTG increases, couples' satisfaction increases. We concluded that the predictor variables (PTG, DASS, and gender) have a significant but modest relationship with couples' satisfaction. Recommendations for future research include doing PTG and couples satisfaction dyadic research with the couples where their data is linked. Practice recommendations are to help couples strengthen together in the light of traumatic situations.
