The end goal of my research was to come up with and test out a workflow that leverages as much technology as possible in order to make the storytelling creation process as a solo independent filmmaker as time-efficient and affordable as possible. Essentially I wanted to gain the skills necessary to become a one-person animation storyteller for online platforms such as YouTube. Even though technology is always changing I still needed this method of storytelling to be easily and quickly repeatable, and any substantial financial investments into this project to be highly beneficial towards my future animation storytelling projects. I went through the painstaking process of researching the tools and workflows utilized by the highest quality independent animation studios and independent animators. To achieve this, I researched and tested many methodologies that could be used to develop comparable results. I settled on using 3D characters that were controlled by a motion-capture animation suit. My character creation process went through many iterations. I had to frequently abandon most of the methodologies that I had refined in favor of instituting more time-effective methods of character creation. Eventually, I met the primary goals I set out to achieve through the use of a high-quality procedural character generator, a video game engine, and a multipass motion capture animation workflow.
