Combined administrative and clinical supervision plays a pivotal role in the responsibilities of counselor educators within the contemporary field of counseling. While the concept of the supervisory working alliance [SWA] has been explored from various angles, there exists a noticeable gap in research about the experiences of licensed professional counselors [LPCs] in dual-role supervision. As the prevalence of this type of supervision continues to rise, so does the reliance on these supervisors to address the needs of their supervisees. The primary objective of this research study was to delve into the nuances of the supervisory working alliance within combined administrative and clinical supervision. Employing a generic qualitative inquiry approach, this study employed Bernard's Discrimination Model of Supervision as a theoretical framework to explore the perceptions of fifteen licensed professional counselors reflecting on their experiences while receiving dual-role supervision. Semi-structured interviews were conducted via Zoom (health platform edition) to elicit participants' insights into the supervisory working alliance. Following a rigorous three-cycle coding process, the research data underwent analysis utilizing the theoretical framework outlined by Braun and Clark, with Quirkos serving as an aiding tool for coding to ensure comprehensive analysis of the raw data. The findings of this research study shed light on five key factors that significantly influence the supervisory working alliance for licensed professional counselors engaged in dual-role supervision: (a) allocating sufficient time to both clinical and administrative tasks emerges as a crucial factor that not only enhances efficiency but also conserves valuable time, (b) benchmarks and training play an integral role in fostering the development and growth of counselors within this supervisory framework, (c) incorporating reflective opportunities and goal setting in the supervisory process enhances counselor self-awareness and accountability, (d) a robust alliance within dual role{A0}supervision contributes to increased vulnerability among counselors and subsequently enhances perceptions of job security, (e) the personality and demeanor of the supervisor can profoundly impact the degree of vulnerability experienced by counselors in this context. While the study provides valuable insights, it is important to acknowledge its limitations. The research also has significant implications for a wider community of stakeholders, including counselor educators, supervisors, and counselor trainees. Moreover, it offers recommendations for future research endeavors, inviting further exploration of the multifaceted landscape of dual-role supervision, ultimately contributing to the ongoing enhancement of counselor education and supervision practices in the counseling field.
