The Pentecostal-Charismatic Movement (P/C) is one of the fastest-growing branches of Christianity in today's world. At the beginning of 21st century, the "Prosperity Gospel" was first spread in the urban churches of coastal Chinese cities, and then was diffused to churches in small-medium cities via china's urban church network. Chinese Christians were stigmatized by terms such as "foreign religion", "cultural invasion", "superstition", "evil cult", "oversea religion permeation", etc. These stigmas appeared alongside the rising of nationalism and modernization encouraged by the state.Chinese P/C Christians suffered especially. Despite stigmatization, Grace Church, a Pentecostal church in Liyang [Special characters omitted] city in central China has attracted many believers, representing the fast-growth of the P/C movement in China. This led me to wonder how Chinese P/C Christians deal with these stigmas, and how the P/C movement is embedded into the primary church network? Also, why has the P/C movement attracted so many believers? This paper reveals that traditional local churches have not overcome the stigmas imposed by the state and non-Christians, due to the traditional churches' over-emphase of the concepts of "suffering for God" and "confession", which has limited the interaction between Christian and non-Christians in Chinese society. However, the P/C movement brought new kinds of teachings, such as enjoying God's grace, achieving prosperity and health, living a better life, and encouraging believers to communicate with others. These teachings allowed the P/C movement to overcome stigmatization and take root in Chinese society. In Grace Church, believers participate in philanthropic dominated by local government. They want to change local officials view that Christianity is a foreign religion or "superstition" by cooperating with them. In order to prove the benefits and correctness of Pentecostal teachings, believers at Grace church stress the teachings deriving in developed western countries and emphasize that the charismatic teachings do exist in the Bible. The believers also consider improving life and working hard as a way of serving God. At the same time, under the theological teaching of "once saved, forever saved", there is no worry about losing salvation by participating in Chinese traditional cultural rituals like ancestor worship. Thus, they try to prove they also observe filial piety. Finally, as everyone can accept the spiritual gifts of God, so they have formed a democratic consciousness of democracy which challenges the church's hierarchy tradition. For local Protestants, the P/C movement is a new kind of Christianity. The charismatic teachings encourage believers to change the stigmas surrounding them by being normal or even outstanding Chinese citizen. However, I found that the state is the main agent imposing stigmas Christians in China. With the increasingly tough church-state relations and booming nationalism, these destigmatization strategies are not enough.
