James Cone defines Black Consciousness as the Black community focusing on its blackness in order that Black people may know not only why they are oppressed, but also what they must do about that oppression. In Oklahoma City, there isn't space for Black youth to learn about their Blackness (personally, historically, or spiritually) in midst of white world. As a remedy to the suburban and rural middle and high school curriculums that prioritize and normalize whiteness and a corrective to the Black churches that practice and promote conservative Eurocentric evangelicalism; this project seeks to create an Afrocentric space for Black youth who live in Oklahoma City and attend Prospect Church, who are consistently bombarded with covert and overt white supremacist messages. Using an Action Plan methodology a youth ministry model has been created to sparks the awakening of Black Consciousness in Black Youth.
