Least restrictive environment (LRE) is central to special education services, yet remains a debated topic, particularly in Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) education. The problem this study sought to address is that, while students who are DHH have the right to be involved in their educational decisions, research on the perceptions of LRE from the perspective of students with disabilities is extremely limited; few studies involving students who are DHH were found. Guided by the question, "What are the perceptions of students who are D/HH regarding their educational experiences within the context of least restrictive environment?," this study explored the concept of LRE in DHH education from the perspective of students who are DHH themselves through narrative interviews. Using qualitative analysis, participant interviews were synthesized to discover common themes providing a unique view of this often-difficult tenant of special education. Implications for practice and recommendations for future research are discussed.
