Thesis (Ed.D.)--Grand Canyon University, 2024.
The purpose of this quantitative, correlational study was to explore if and to what extent a correlation existed between each of the four domains of spiritual well-being (personal, communal, environmental, and transcendental) and job satisfaction of certified addiction counselors in Georgia. Spector's Job Satisfaction Theory and Fisher's Spiritual Well-Being Model were used to guide this study and to address the problem, purpose, and significance. Four research questions examined if a correlation existed between job satisfaction and each of the four domains of spiritual well-being of addiction counselors. The sample consisted of 130 participants who completed two surveys, the JSS and the SHALOM. Demographic data was analyzed through descriptive statistics. Cronbach's alpha test results showed high internal consistency for each of the instruments. Scatterplots showed monotonic relationships between each pair of variables. Data were analyzed using Spearman's correlation to assess the correlation between each paired variable from the research questions. The results for RQ1 (personal domain of spiritual well-being and job satisfaction), RQ3 (environmental domain of spiritual well-being and job satisfaction), and RQ4 (transcendental domain of spiritual well-being and job satisfaction) showed weak correlations. RQ2 (communal domain of spiritual well-being and job satisfaction) was the only positive relationship with r(128) = .21 and a significance level of .02. The findings of this study suggest that the level of job satisfaction of certified addiction counselors in Georgia is not significantly correlated to their personal, environmental, or transcendental spiritual well-being, but it is positively and significantly correlated to their communal spiritual well-being.
