Thesis (M.I.D.)--Pratt Institute, 2024.
This paper explores the possibility to combine functionality and fashion in redesigning protective devices for people with high sensitivity, which can be referred to as HSPs (highly sensitive persons). More specifically, my target audience are individuals with a particular sensitivity to light and sound, often caused by conditions like individual differences in stimulus tolerance, migraine, post-concussion symptoms or other diseases. These people have the need to shield their eyes and ears from stimuli around them in the environment.Aiming to enhance the users' confidence and overall life quality, the research investigates the challenges the target audience faces in public spaces like the subway, bars and streets. A series of products are developed through a user-centered design approach, which considers fashion sense, comfort and adjustability to the products. In addition, the project aims to raise awareness and understanding to the sensitive individuals and people with invisible disabilities.The outcome of this research is a collection of fashionable and functional protective wearable devices that can be used in various occasions with confidence and comfort.{A0}{A0}{A0}
