Building a sustainable career is a challenge for all pianists. Developing the necessary performance skills requires countless hours of repetitive practice in order to be proficient with both the instrument and the repertoire; however, there is a tendency to overlook the pragmatic aspects of career preparation. Concert artists have the benefit of management services for promotion and bookings, but all musicians would benefit from skills in entrepreneurship. The purpose of this study is to review a growing body of literature that investigates the emerging trends in the classical music industry and examines the need for practical entrepreneurial training in academic music programs. It is important to make a distinction between entrepreneurship and career development, and this body of literature helps to make that distinction. We do not want to see music degree programs become a type of a vocational training; however, current research shows that we can better equip music graduates with essential skills for career sustainability beyond musical abilities.Scholars have conducted research across various arrays of this topic; therefore, this literature review is categorized into six chapters in forming the discussion. The integration of entrepreneurship into the music curricula has over the years gained substantial awareness in academia. In order to prepare today's young professional musicians to better adapt to the growing diversified, digitalized, and globalized industry trends, many educators have examined the necessity for institutions to offer music majors the opportunities and training to develop entrepreneurial awareness and its corresponding skills. An increasing number of institutions have started to include entrepreneurship as a component in their degree programs in order to lay down a sufficient foundation for their students to become more well-rounded musicians. There is a growing body of recent research that reflects this necessity and addresses possible frameworks to articulate entrepreneurship training that consider distinct institutional and instructional circumstances. College faculty who are engaged in preparing musicians would not be expected to become experts in entrepreneurship education, but they can benefit and gain insights from learning about these emerging resources.
