The industrial revolution was fostered through the harnessing of fossil fuel to produce energy, improving the standard of living for many. Some nations as we know as "developed" today, became wealthy and powerful by the revolution. While there are many benefits to the use of fossil fuels, it has come at the cost of climate change and developing nations and least developed nations are feeling the brunt of the impact. The purpose of this research is to investigate how technology and innovation can be used to alleviate the climate crisis in developing countries and least developed countries through mitigation and adaptation. PESTEL analysis was used to examine the macro-environmental factors that may have an impact on climate technology, and SWOT analysis was used to assess these factors. The research reveals that technology is one of the most important influences in alleviating the climate crisis, but it is contingent on other variables like improving the availability of finance, strengthening old policies or creating new ones, and improving the efficacy of existing treaties to reduce global warming like the Paris Agreement and NDCs put forward by member states. The research also reveals that it is imperative to engage all stakeholders, from individuals and organizations to governments and international organizations. There needs to be a collective effort to meet the global ambition to reduce global temperature. As global warming increases, adaptation may not be an option if climate change outpaces adaptation strategies. Additionally, developing countries are currently experiencing the consequences of climate change like food insecurity. As a result, in is not good enough for developed nations to strive toward carbon neutrality by removing or offsetting all CO2 emissions they are currently releasing into the atmosphere. They have a fundamental responsibility for the past emissions that brought them tremendous wealth. Thus, they need to strive towards being carbon negative by removing more carbon emissions than they are currently putting in.
