Thesis (Ph.D.)--Saint Louis University, 2023.
The purpose of the current study is to survey collegiate student-athletes perceived level of importance of thirty empirically derived athletic values and to develop evidence-based athletic values that can be utilized in sport psychological interventions with athletes. An online survey containing three separate measures for participants to complete was emailed to student-athletes at Saint Louis University, a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I institution located in the Midwest. Researchers investigated the importance of athletic values as they were perceived as most or least important for collegiate student-athletes based on their gender, academic standing, and sport type. Additionally, researchers were interested in investigating athletic values in student-athletes who identify as Black/African American, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and international status. The goal of the study was to increase the ecological validity of athletic values to enhance the overall utility of athletic values for all athletes regardless of their background or sport type.
