Thesis (M.A.)--Wake Forest University, 2023.
Education on sport-transferable skills is critical for college student-athletes to feel prepared for the workforce after they graduate. There are numerous skills student-athletes learn from their sport that can transfer to non-sport-related jobs. However, if student-athletes are not aware of their sport-transferable skills or lack confidence that their sport skills are transferable to other careers, it can negatively impact their self-perception as a viable job candidate. In this experimental study, student-athletes are primed with education on the value of their sport-transferable skills to the workforce in order to test its effect on student-athletes sport-transferable skill awareness, sport-transferable skill self-efficacy, and job interview impression management. Sport-transferable skill awareness and efficacy were found to largely impact student-athletes' job interview impression management. Implications for priming student-athletes on their sport-transferable skills are discussed.
