The focus of this research study is to make aware of how the negative depictions of African American athletes can impact an individual and the African American community. It shows how it starts and develops and how much the negative portrayal of African American athletes can impact generations of African American athletes. This qualitative ethnographic study analyzed the negative media portrayals of African American athletes and how they have affected a local organized sports team. The study consisted of African American male adults between the ages of 18 and 55. Twelve African American male participants from a local organized basketball sports program comprised the study sampling frame. Participants had to have four years of experience playing in the participating league and a minimum age of 13 years. Data was collected using a questionnaire. Coding enabled the identification of multiple themes. Using coding software, the research findings were sorted and organized into three main groups. The following themes are present: Participants believe that the physical attributes of African American athletes are frequently exploited; there is an increase in the number of various platforms displaying more positive depictions of African American athletes; and there is a belief that exercising control over how African American athletes are portrayed is of utmost importance. This qualitative research case study examined the consequences of the media's poor representation of African American athletes on those athletes and African Americans in general. the results indicated that participants believe that more positive images of African American athletes should be displayed. A significant number of participants continue to watch local television channels to stay current on sports, sports media, and general news. The poor imagery and erroneous depiction of African American athletes can hurt the athletes themselves, which can hurt the community. The recommendation is to determine what specific measures and procedures the participants will take{A0}to avoid taking this negative form of media personally, and to determine what these actions and tactics will be. How will you prevent this type of racism against African American athletes from affecting your own life? A recommendation that may be made based on the findings of this study is to conduct additional research and have more dialogues with African Americans in leadership, management, and administrative positions.{A0}
