This study sought to provide noncontextualized empirical data regarding the experience of contentment while serving in an athletic leadership role, closing the current literature gap of lagging sport specific athletic leadership (in particular women) contentment based research. This study focused on the development of a contextually rich description to provide an answer to how NCAA Division I and II head women's basketball coaches describe the experience of contentment while coaching in the NCAA Tournament. Through the methodological use of case study analysis, collected data from a combination of 10 NCAA Division I (6) and Division II (4) head women's basketball coaches provided insight into how to best describe the experience of contentment while coaching in the NCAA Tournament. Although the prevailing generic assumption is contentment is not part of a coaches' experience while coaching in a tournament, first-hand participant accounts through virtual interviews revealed that contentment is part of the NCAA Tournament coaching experience serving as a reflective tool to help coaches' soak in the moment and find satisfaction in being one of the country's elite women's basketball programs in that given year. Researcher thematically analyzed data concluded that the experience of contentment while coaching in the NCAA Tournament is most closely related to team performance, team readiness, and coaching community recognition.
