Despite anticipated growth in demand for professional accountants in Jamaica due to a complex business environment and prompt filing requirements, ACCA student enrollment declined annually from 2013 to 2021. Registrants decreased from 3,741 to 2,305 over this period. This study's purpose was to determine the reasons for the decline by examining the factors influencing students' decisions to pursue ACCA certification. This is significant if the ICAJ is to avoid a shortfall in certified accountants needed to address future demand. A quantitative exploratory survey gathered 172 student responses, assessing the influence of nine variables on ACCA enrollment. Statistical analysis of the data using IBM SPSS showed that higher earnings after certification, perception of the value of ACCA certification to career, the belief that professionally qualified accountants earn more than those with an accounting degree, better career opportunities that accompany certification, the job stability that ACCA certification provides, and awareness of the value of ACCA qualification significantly influenced enrollment decisions. Recommendations for the ICAJ and other educational institutions include using student responses to redesign their ACCA promotional and student enrollment strategy. Opportunities for future research should include expanding the geographic location outside of Jamaica, including demographic questions, widening the sample to include applicants at various stages of the enrollment process, and including responses from members in public and private practice.
