Some studies state the benefits of meditation. Other studies suggest that there is an association between the use of social media and symptoms of depression. This study aims to understand and ask the question: Does meditation reduce the symptoms of depression in adults who use social media every day? A convenient sample (N = 30) aged 18-65 participated in a four-week, online-based, study retrieved from a meditation group on Facebook. The symptoms of depression were initially assessed with a Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Depressive symptoms were reassessed in the final week with PHQ-9. Along with a demographics table, the association between meditation and symptoms of depression was analyzed using a t-test and descriptive statistics. The results showed a 1.2 reduction in symptoms of depression and were statistically significant (95% confidence interval, .732-1.53, p < .001).
