The purpose of this causal-comparative quantitative study was to determine if a significant difference existed between male and female senior leadership within today's ever changing military organization. Male and female officers and noncommissioned officers in the Air National Guard (n=20) were surveyed. This study provided insight into various leadership styles of senior male and female Air National Guard leaders. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Leader Form (5x-Short) served as the research instrument with the transformational leadership category being the primary focal point for the data collected. The study provided evidence that participants displayed some if not all the key characteristics of a transformational leader. The study determined there was no statistically significant difference in the transformational leadership style between males and females regardless of rank or gender. The study confirmed mentoring future leaders regardless of rank or gender as the most important role of a transformational leader in today's military.
