Several academic studies have focused on the factors that influence student's college major decisions. However, there is an absence in the literature of studies focusing on minority business students, specifically those of color. This research aimed to learn more about the factors that influence business students to select an accounting major and address an apparent gap in the literature by designing a study that incorporated students matriculating through historically black colleges and universities. Additionally, this study extended the literature investigating the Theory of Planned Behavior as a framework for motivating behavior intent with minority business students. From that conceptual framework, this study sought to identify if constructs of the TPB influenced the college major decisions of minority business students. The problem that this research attempted to address was the dwindling number of student accounting prospects, specifically the underrepresentation of minorities (people of color) in the accounting profession. This study utilized an online survey and collected data from undergraduate business students attending five historically Black colleges and universities of varying sizes and geographic locations. Due to the study's design which measures the probability of a binary event occurring, logistic regression was utilized to examine the relationship between variables proposed in the conceptual model. Also, an independent t-test was conducted to determine if there were any significant differences in the responses of each survey item measured on the Likert scale. Results indicated that the constructs of the Theory of Planned Behavior (attitude, important referents, or perceived behavioral control) did not have a statistically significant effect on business students' decision to major in accounting at historically Black colleges and universities.
