Creative intervention utilizing evidence-based juvenile diversion programs is critical in reducing detention populations. This generic qualitative inquiry collected data from 10 juvenile justice professionals with experience implementing or referring youth to evidence-based diversion programs. This exploration examined the common characteristics through the lens of juvenile justice professionals. The research questions for this study asked, "How do juvenile justice professionals describe the characteristics of evidence-based practices within juvenile diversion programs?" and "Is there a common characteristic that youth demonstrate after their experience with evidence-based practices within juvenile diversion programs?" The data analysis included telephone interviews, manual transcription, thematic analysis, and recognition of common themes. Four themes emerged from this process, including incentive-based=program success, youth acquire applicable life skills, evidence-based practices being culturally irrelevant, and evidence-based programs do not benefit all youth. The results from this study found that the typical characteristics recognized from the themes presented can inform juvenile jurisdictions' development and implementation of future and current juvenile diversion programs. Future research is recommended to continue building on enhancing the juvenile justice system through a trauma-informed approach by recognizing the importance of utilizing evidence-based diversion programs to deter youth from the justice system.
