Although childbirth is a natural process, it can cause fear, anxiety, and pain for laboring women, especially among adolescents, because adolescents have immaturity of physical and psychological growth. The care and support provided by midwives' is focused on improving maternal-child outcomes both during the labor and delivery process, but also in regard to maternal bonding and infant growth and development. This study was a hermeneutic phenomenology qualitative study that explored midwives' experiences, perspectives, and opinions regarding the care of pregnant adolescents during childbirth in central Thailand. The data collection process was carried out by semi-structured interviews with 15 midwives using interview questions built upon House's social support theory (1981) and Swanson's theory of caring (1991). Data were analyzed according to van Manen's (1990, 2014) approach to explore the midwives' experience and to reveal the essence of caring for pregnant adolescents during childbirth. Three themes had created, including the challenge of having a good birthing experience, using the wisdom of experience, and the skill and art of midwifery practice in Thailand. The results reflected the characteristics and needs of pregnant adolescents that may differ from pregnant adults, the impact of midwives' care on pregnant adolescents during childbirth, and valuable guidelines for developing pregnant adolescents' care. The experiences of midwives gained from this study can be used to plan and develop guidelines for caring of pregnant adolescents in Thailand.
