Pedology is a live discipline, evolving in response to new science, new teaching, and reevaluation of basic features. Effective communication is key to all of these.This dissertation evaluates these aspects through:{A0}1: creating an updated method for describing and communicating structure that distinguishes geological, pedological, and human-induced forms in the north-central USA,{A0}{A0}2: identifying soil morphological features important to Uganda farmers in rating their soils' productivity,{A0}3: synthesizing natural pedology with anthropedology in the Galva soil series,4: critiquing and justifying the value of pedological descriptions as an experiential education activity, and,{A0}5: developing outreach chapters introducing pedology to young naturalists and artists of all ages.In summary, pedology remains a live discipline, with two of my critical findings being the Galva series is more diverse than historically described and appears to be changing so should be recognized as multiple series, and Ugandan farmers assessment of productivity corresponds with soil morphological features.
