Bayou DeSiard stretches 45 kilometers through Ouachita Parish, LA and includes a variety of land uses capable of depositing multiple types of endocrine disrupting chemicals that can negatively impact aquatic life inhabiting the bayou. Western mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis) were sampled from ten collection sites along Bayou DeSiard during Spring 2022 and Winter 2023 to investigate endocrine disruption. Morphometric assessments such as condition factor, gonadosomatic index, and anal fin 4:6 ratio were calculated. The spring and winter collections each recorded significant differences in the data gathered in several of the endpoints measured. When statistically comparing the spring and winter collections, significant differences were recorded in female and male standard length, total weight, condition factor, gonadosomatic index, and female anal fin 4:6 ratio throughout the ten collection sites. However, results provided minimal data to suggest endocrine disruption within the western mosquitofish population inhabiting Bayou DeSiard.
